California races to prevent chemical tank explosion as thousands evacuated
Tens of thousands of residents in Garden Grove, Orange County, California, were evacuated on Friday due to a leaking tank of toxic chemicals. The tank, containing 26,000 liters of methyl methacrylate, a volatile and flammable liquid used in plastics, began to leak, releasing fumes over a populated area. Firefighters warned on Saturday that the tank is heating up, increasing concerns about a potential catastrophic explosion. Approximately 40,000 people were ordered to leave their homes as a result of the escalating situation.
