This finding marks a notable shift as Iceland was previously one of the few mosquito-free regions globally. The discovery occurred when Hjaltason, while observing moths using wine-soaked ropes over several nights last week, encountered and captured three mosquitoes—two females and one male. These were identified as Culiseta annulata species by local authorities.
