Queen Mother Sirikit, who was married to King Bhumibol Adulyadej for over six decades until his death in 2016, has died at the age of 93. Known as a glamorous and influential figure within Thailand's monarchy, she supported various causes including rural development, traditional craft preservation, and environmental protection throughout her reign. Sirikit was also occasionally involved in political affairs, particularly in later years when she rarely appeared in public due to health issues since suffering from a stroke in 2012. Her recent hospitalization for multiple illnesses culminated in her passing on Friday evening at a Bangkok hospital, where she had been treated for a blood infection among other ailments since October 17th. As the mother of King Vajiralongkorn and an iconic figure who brought elegance to Thailand's post-war monarchy revival, Sirikit's death marks the end of an era in Thai royal history.
