Malaysian MP offers US$1,200 reward for arsonist after unprovoked attack on elderly woman

A Malaysian lawmaker is offering a 5,000 ringgit (US$1,200) reward to catch the person responsible for an arson attack which left an elderly woman in critical condition in Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur.The 62-year-old counter staff suffered 50 per cent burns to her body after an unidentified individual doused her in what police believe was petrol and set her on fire at a lottery shop in Kepong, a suburb some 14km (nine miles) from the city.Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said the attack was an “act of shocking cruelty”.“I am sickened and outraged by the brutal attack … the person responsible must be found, arrested and made to face the full force of the law,” Lim said in a statement on Monday, offering the cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the arsonist.Anyone with information should contact the police, he added. “Please do not approach or confront the suspect yourselves.”Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect behind the Sunday evening attack, which they believed was unprovoked and with no clear motive.
