Hong Kong to review warning system after record heat triggers lowest alert

Hong Kong labour authorities have announced a review of the city's heat stress warning system. This decision comes after the weather forecaster issued the lowest-level alert for outdoor workers despite record-breaking temperatures, raising concerns about the system's effectiveness. Experts are urging the government to adopt an international measurement that better accounts for direct sunlight and to expand the network of heat stress monitoring stations. The Undersecretary for Labour and Welfare, Ho Kai-ming, stated on Monday that the current mechanism will be reviewed, with ongoing communication with relevant departments. This review aims to better reflect the risks faced by outdoor workers across all districts.
