China’s travellers raise alarm over error-filled tourist signs in public spaces

A highway operator in Gansu province, China, apologized on Wednesday for a mistranslated sign at a service area. The sign for the "hot water room" was incorrectly rendered in English as "open water rooms," and this error was shared on social media. This incident follows similar instances of translation and spelling mistakes on public facility signage, including an airport in Guiyang where a passenger found multiple misspellings in late March. The mistranslated bilingual sign was located at the Yuanyang service area on the Lianyungang-Khorgos Expressway. These errors have repeatedly drawn public attention.
