Canada hits US goods with tariffs of up to 50 per cent as trade war escalates

Canada has imposed retaliatory tariffs of up to 50 percent on approximately US$19.94 billion (C$27.6 billion) of American goods. These tariffs, which will take effect on September 8, are a response to new duties imposed by the Trump administration on Canadian products following collapsed trade negotiations. The Canadian government stated that the tariffs will affect over 700 categories of US goods, with rates of 15, 25, or 50 percent. Targeted products include steel, aluminum, agricultural equipment, household appliances, clothing, cheese, seafood, cosmetics, and electronics. This action escalates the ongoing trade confrontation between Canada and the United States.
