MTR Corp warns of prosecution as tour guide identified in fare evasion probe

Hong Kong police have identified a tour guide suspected of helping members of a travel group evade fares at an MTR station last month, the city’s rail operator has said, warning that anyone found in breach of the rules could face prosecution.The MTR Corporation said on Thursday that police had identified the guide involved in the incident at Tsim Sha Tsui station, and that it was working closely with the force and the Travel Industry Authority to gather evidence and information for further follow-up and possible prosecution.The operator said it “strongly condemned” fare evasion and stressed that passengers who failed to pay the correct fare or otherwise evaded payment could face a surcharge or prosecution under MTR by-laws.
