IT worker, 51, allegedly kills wife with knife after financial disputes

A man believed to be millions of dollars in debt is suspected of murdering his wife in their flat after previous financial disputes, according to preliminary investigations by Hong Kong police.Superintendent Kwan Chun-ting, assistant district commander of Eastern district crime squad, said on Thursday that a 51-year-old man had turned himself in at Kowloon City Police Station at 7.30pm the previous day and confessed to killing his wife.“We believe the incident happened between the early hours and daytime yesterday when they were inside the same room,” he said.Police arrested the suspect on Wednesday evening after officers found his 53-year-old wife dead on the bed in the master bedroom of their Heng Fa Chuen private flat, with knife wounds on her neck, torso and hands.“The deceased and the arrestee had a dispute inside their home, with the arrestee attacking her with a kitchen knife,” Kwan said.The couple’s two sons, aged 22 and 15, also lived in the same flat, but the superintendent did not mention their presence when recounting the incident.While Kwan said police would still have to investigate the suspect’s motive, preliminary findings showed he had a record of risky investments and debts of more than HK$1 million.
