3 firms fined over HK$900,000 each for role in apprentice electrician’s death

Three companies have been fined over HK$900,000 each following the death of a 38-year-old worker. The worker was electrocuted three years ago while installing solar panel wiring at the Hong Kong Science Park during wet weather. The main contractor, China Power International Development, and two subcontractors, A Kourage and Skynet Engineering Company, were found to have committed serious negligence. The magistrate stated that China Power International Development had not provided any on-site supervision. The project also involved a joint venture between China Power and Hong Kong and China Gas Company, Towngas-China Power (HK) Integrated Energy Company, which was also fined. The fines were imposed for failing to ensure safety measures were in place.
