John Lee appoints Kelvin Kong head of police’s National Security Department

Kelvin Kong Hok-lai has been appointed as the head of Hong Kong's National Security Department, succeeding Andrew Kan Kai-yan who has begun pre-retirement leave. Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu made the appointment as deputy police commissioner (national security) under the national security law, effective immediately after Kong took his oath. Kong, previously the director of national security, has served in the Hong Kong Police Force for thirty years and has been with the department since the national security law's implementation.
