They also set fire to a car belonging to one of the victims.“It’s shocking and sad. These are guys I grew up with. I can’t believe it. It’s like a movie,” a resident told the broadcaster.“I’ve been staying here all my life, and I’ve never seen anything like this,” he added.According to a police statement cited by eNCA, preliminary investigations indicated that some of those killed were on South Africa’s Crime Intelligence radar over suspected illegal activities, though the statement did not elaborate further.“Although the motive for the shooting has not yet been confirmed, a feud between rival groupings cannot be ruled out,” the police said.South Africa has one of the world’s highest murder rates, with an average of about 60 people killed daily in a population of roughly 62 million.In March, soldiers were deployed alongside national police to violent hotspots to tackle rampant crime, an issue President Cyril Ramaphosa has described as one of the country’s biggest threats.
