Murder suspect captured in Thailand set to be handed back to Hong Kong authorities

Thai Police have helped Hong Kong authorities in arresting two fugitives, including a murder suspect who had been on the run for more than three decades, the city’s police chief has said.Speaking upon his return from Thailand on Thursday, Commissioner of Police Joe Chow Yat-ming said the two local suspects were linked to two separate cases – a 37-year-old murder and a robbery.“We had intelligence suggesting [the murder suspect] was hiding in Thailand, our colleagues handed over information to Thai Police for follow up,” Chow said.He added that the murder suspect had no departure record after the 1989 killing, leading local officers to suspect the man had fled the city through illegal means.On Wednesday, a 62-year-old fugitive linked to a brutal murder on a Sai Kung beach nearly 37 years ago was arrested in Thailand.Thai media reported that the arrested man was Mui Yiu-keung at the request of Hong Kong authorities.Mui’s arrest would mark the capture of the last suspect connected to the Lung Ha Wan beach murder in August 1989, as three other accomplices in the case had already been tried more than two decades ago.
