Temperatures on Lantau, in rural areas to go as low as 8 degrees on Sunday morning

Please consider supporting SCMP’s journalism by subscribing.Temperatures on Hong Kong’s Lantau Island and in some rural areas could reach as low as eight degrees Celsius (46.4 Fahrenheit) on Sunday morning, the local forecaster has said.The Hong Kong Observatory said on Saturday that minimum temperatures in Lantau and Sai Kung were likely to sit at eight degrees and just a degree higher in Ta Kwu Ling the next day.The forecaster added that Sunday could initially see temperatures as low as about 13 degrees in urban areas with one or two patches of light rain, but it was expected to become drier later with sunny periods.For Saturday afternoon, it said temperatures over much of the city would be “five to seven degrees lower than on Friday”.“The northeast monsoon is affecting the coast of Guangdong, and a band of clouds is covering the region,” the forecaster said.
