Boss of theatre hosting Chinese dance group Shen Yun in Sydney won’t be intimidated by ‘outrageous’ threats

The Sydney Lyric theatre, which will host Shen Yun in March, will not be intimidated by recent threats made against the dance troupe. This follows bomb threats that forced evacuations at a Gold Coast venue and the Australian Prime Minister's residence after threats were made to Shen Yun's parent body, the Falun Dafa religious movement. Despite the threats, the theatre expects the shows to sell out and will defend the right to tell cultural stories. The Falun Dafa Association of Australia, which brings the show to Australia, reported a spike in ticket sales but also some safety concerns from ticket holders. The organization has increased security at all venues and accuses the Chinese Communist Party of orchestrating the threats as part of a repression campaign.
