Revealed: the Ukrainian facility where UK engineers help fix vital weapons

British engineers are working inside Ukraine at an undisclosed facility, along with three other similar sites, to repair damaged military equipment, including British-donated AS-90 howitzers. The existence of these facilities was previously kept secret due to security concerns. The Guardian was granted access to one of the sites during a visit by UK Defence Minister Luke Pollard, marking the first media access. The facility, which has repair bays for up to 30 vehicles, is staffed by British engineers contracted by the Ministry of Defence, alongside Ukrainian engineers. Repairing equipment inside Ukraine reduces delays compared to transporting it outside the country. Pollard stated that operating the facility within Ukraine is a calculated risk necessary to support Kyiv.
