Labubu, Blackpink’s Jennie draw thousands to ComplexCon in Hong Kong

Popular doll Labubu and Blackpink’s Jennie were among the headline names and brands from the city and abroad that drew thousands of fans to Hong Kong’s third edition of pop culture festival ComplexCon on Saturday.Organisers said this year’s edition had broken attendance records and would draw tens of thousands across the two-day event at AsiaWorld-Expo.On Saturday morning, attendees took selfies with sculptures of the figurine and queued for exclusive merchandise, while others explored local vinyl record social enterprises and T-shirt brands.Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui said at the opening ceremony that ComplexCon presented an “impressive and dynamic combination” of pop culture programmes and was backed by the government’s Mega Arts and Cultural Events Fund for a third year.“I am delighted to see that our city’s distinctive arts and culture DNA makes it the perfect home for this global convergence of style, trainers, music,” Law said.Law added that beyond this year’s headliners, Jennie from K‑pop superstar girl group Blackpink and American rapper Yeat, she was excited that renowned Hong Kong artist Lung Ka-sing, creator of Labubu, was the festival’s artistic director.
