Protests turn deadly during demonstration in Syrian city of Latakia

On December 28, 2025, a demonstration in the Syrian city of Latakia turned deadly, resulting in at least three fatalities and numerous injuries. The protest involved hundreds of people from the Alawite minority. These demonstrations occurred in coastal and central regions of Syria. The protests were seemingly triggered by the bombing of a mosque in Homs two days prior. The reason for the demonstration was to express their grievances following the bombing.
