Woman arrested for allegedly stalking Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham

A woman who is accused of stalking the former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has been arrested in Indiana, according to local police.Authorities in Fort Wayne, Indiana, said in a statement over the weekend that they took 55-year-old Michelle Dick into custody on Saturday as she was wanted on a warrant out of California “for stalking” Buckingham.Dick has been accused of dousing Buckingham, 76, with an unknown substance in March as he entered a building in Santa Monica for an appointment. Police said she also damaged his vehicle during the incident before fleeing the scene.Buckingham was not physically injured.In the statement from Fort Wayne police department on Saturday, they said that “it was advised that Michelle had been stalking Buckingham and his family for several years.“And in 2024, Mr Buckingham obtained a restraining order against Michelle following the years of harassment,” the police’s statement said.After the alleged March encounter, authorities believe that Dick fled California and traveled more than 2,000 miles (3,500km) to Fort Wayne, where she was arrested without incident.She was being held there as of Monday pending an extradition to California, police said. Court records show that she faces multiple charges, including stalking, vandalism, battery and criminal threats.According to the Los Angeles Times, Dick was known to Buckingham and his family from previous encounters. The newspaper reported that the restraining order granted in December 2024 required her to stay at least 100 yards away from Buckingham, his wife and his son – and barred her from contacting them.Rolling Stone reported that Buckingham has claimed that the stalking began in late 2021 with dozens of phone calls and “long, drawn-out messages” in which Dick claimed “she was my child” and allegedly made “threats to kill me and my family”.Buckingham has also alleged that Dick was responsible for “swatting” – or prank-calling emergency operators to get a heavily armed response – his home, which Rolling Stone reported led to him being briefly detained while officers searched his home.In his restraining order petition, Buckingham reportedly said that he was “afraid” that Dick’s “conduct may escalate into something physically dangerous to me and my family”.NBC Los Angeles reported that Dick was expected to appear in court sometime in the coming days for extradition proceedings. She was being held in the Allen County Jail for the moment.Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 and played with the band until 1987, winning two Grammy awards – including album of the year – with the group for 1978’s Rumours. He later rejoined Fleetwood Mac from 1997 to 2018 and was part of the group for its 1998 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
