The musician Jesy Nelson, a former member of the band Little Mix, has pleaded for help after her car, which contained essential medical equipment for her children, was stolen from her driveway in Essex. The black Land Rover is believed to have been taken at about 3am on Sunday in Brentwood. Her twins, 11-month-old Ocean Jade and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster, have been diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy type 1 (SMA1), which causes progressive muscle wastage and could mean they are never able to walk. The car contained medical equipment from the hospital which is essential for their care. The singer posted about the theft on her Instagram account, and has offered a £10,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to the car being found.Writing on an Instagram story, she said: “My car got stolen off my driveway in the early hours of this morning, if anyone sees a black Defender reg plate JJ73SSY.“Please, if any of you have seen or know of any information can you DM me or contact the police.“I have so much of my girls’ hospital equipment in that car that’s really needed.”The 34-year-old singer welcomed twins in May 2025 after they were born prematurely. She spoke about their diagnosis earlier this year in a social media post. “We were told that they’re probably never going to be able to walk; they probably will never regain their neck strength, so they will be disabled, and so the best thing we can do right now is to get them treatment, and then just hope for the best,” she said.“Thankfully, the girls have had their treatment, which you know, I’m so grateful for because if they don’t have it, they will die.”She is an advocate for raising awareness about the condition, which is the most severe and common form of the genetic neuromuscular disorder. It causes muscle weakness, progressive loss of movement and paralysis.According to the NHS, in the UK about 70 children are born with SMA each year, and without treatment fewer than one in 10 (8%) will survive to the age of two.
