Families of Indonesian helpers who died in Tai Po fire struggle to break news to kids

Grieving relatives of Indonesian domestic helpers who died in a fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, Hong Kong, have struggled to inform their children about the tragic event. Eight foreign domestic helpers, aged between 32 and 48, lost their lives in the November 2023 inferno. Nine of the victims were from Indonesia, while one was Filipino. Esther Tse Yan-yin, a workers' rights advocate, recently visited Indonesia to support the families. Relatives have also faced difficulties in receiving compensation from Hong Kong authorities, with some being targeted by scammers. The visit aimed to provide emotional and practical support to the affected families during this difficult time.
