Syria’s Sharaa holds phone call with Trump, Syrian presidency says

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa spoke with US President Donald Trump via phone on Sunday, according to the Syrian presidency. The leaders discussed supporting the Syrian economy and recent regional developments. During the call, al-Sharaa emphasized that lifting remaining US sanctions on Syria is crucial for economic revival and attracting investment. The United States maintains that some sanctions are still in effect, even after dismantling most of its Syria sanctions regime and repealing the Caesar Act. The Caesar Act had imposed extensive measures on entities and individuals connected to former president Bashar al-Assad.
