Top Chinese map-making scientist Zhou Chenghu under investigation in anti-corruption sweep

Zhou Chenghu, a prominent Chinese cartographic scientist and former deputy director of the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), is under investigation for corruption. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, the Communist Party's top disciplinary body, confirmed the investigation on Monday. Zhou is being probed by central and local anti-corruption agencies for "suspected serious violations of duty." While the notice did not provide specific details of the allegations, an Economic Observer report from May 22 cited informed sources stating that the 62-year-old academician was taken away by disciplinary inspectors in late April from his research institute.
