Citizen group to press for ‘transparency’ in Philippine VP Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial

A citizen watchdog group named Bantay Senado (Senate Watch) has been launched in the Philippines to monitor the impeachment trial of Vice-President Sara Duterte-Carpio. The coalition, comprised of over 350 volunteers including students and young professionals, along with support from lawyers, academics, and civil society members, aims to ensure the trial is conducted transparently, fairly, and in accordance with constitutional requirements. This initiative comes amid internal turmoil within the Senate, which has raised public doubts about the fairness and constitutionality of the politically sensitive proceedings. The group officially launched on Monday.
