Chinese analysts suggest this new vessel, which appears to lack a traditional fin, is intended to enhance China's "hunt-and-kill" capabilities. A fin is typically used for observation and communications, and its absence in this design is believed by analysts to improve the submarine's stealth, maneuverability, and speed.
