Woman ‘devastated’ when undercover officer ended relationship, spycops inquiry hears

A woman known as Ellie testified at a public inquiry in London about her relationship with undercover officer James Thomson. The two met in 2001 and had a year-long intimate relationship while Thomson was deployed to infiltrate animal rights campaigners between 1997 and 2002. After the relationship ended, Thomson maintained close contact with Ellie for 16 years, including sending her emails and kissing her when they met up. He finally revealed his true identity to her in 2018. Ellie described feeling devastated and mistrustful of the police after discovering Thomson's deception. She moved to Australia in 2005, where she has since spoken out about her experience, stating that she was a victim of Thomson's lies and feels that the police showed little respect for their relationship.
