China’s nuclear weapons scientist Du Xiangwan clarifies role in nation’s war on waste

Veteran nuclear physicist Du Xiangwan, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, has clarified his involvement in China's waste-to-energy initiatives. In a June 2 press release, Du confirmed that he and his team have conducted research and provided consulting services for the development of pilot "zero-waste cities" projects. This initiative is a significant part of China's environmental strategy aimed at eradicating rubbish and addressing historical landfill issues. The clarification comes amid speculation that nuclear weapon technologies might be linked to municipal waste incineration.
