Proposed Sai Kung marine park to cover most coral reefs: Hong Kong authorities

Hong Kong authorities have announced that a proposed marine park around Sharp Island in Sai Kung will encompass most of the area's coral reefs. This plan aims to address concerns raised by a green group regarding the protection of ecologically sensitive areas. Janet Lee Ka-wai, a senior marine conservation officer, stated that underwater mapping technology was utilized to assess coral coverage and identify key ecological sites. These identified major coral spots, according to a reef survey conducted last year, are situated within the proposed 63-hectare marine park boundaries. The details were presented to members of the Country and Marine Parks Board.
