Hong Kong to mandate health checks for commercial drivers aged 65 and above

Hong Kong will implement mandatory health checks for commercial vehicle drivers aged 65 and older starting by mid-next year. This measure aims to enhance road safety by lowering the age threshold for medical certification from 70 to 65 and increasing the frequency of assessments. Undersecretary for Transport and Logistics Liu Chun-san announced these plans to the Legislative Council. The authorities will also create a register of doctors to assist drivers in selecting a suitable practitioner for their assessments. The government's objective is to ensure elderly drivers are fit to operate commercial vehicles.
