Hong Kong retail sales grow 7.9% in May, extending winning streak to 13 months

Hong Kong's retail sales increased by 7.9% in May compared to the previous year, marking 13 consecutive months of growth. The total value of retail sales for May reached HK$33.8 billion (US$4.3 billion). This expansion was partly driven by an increase in visitor numbers, particularly during mainland China's Labour Day holiday period. For the first five months of the year, retail sales saw a 10.6% rise compared to the same period in the prior year. These provisional figures were released by the Census and Statistics Department.
