Hong Kong approves first subdivided units meeting basic housing standards

Hong Kong authorities have approved the city's first three subdivided units that meet official minimum housing standards. Hayson Chan Hin-hay, chairman of the Hong Kong Basic Housing Units Operators Association, had his three subdivided units in Sham Shui Po certified as "basic housing units" by the Housing Bureau last week. This approval follows the implementation of the Basic Housing Units Ordinance on March 1, which mandates that only certified subdivided flats meeting minimum living standards can be leased. Chan, who applied in late May, advised other landlords to seek professional assistance to streamline the process and avoid unnecessary expenses.
