Hong Kong could adjust tunnel tolls as traffic surpasses pre-reform peak

Hong Kong's Transport Department has indicated that tolls at the city's three cross-harbour tunnels may be adjusted in the future. This potential adjustment comes 2½ years after the introduction of time-varying charges, as traffic volumes have now surpassed pre-reform peak levels. A paper submitted to the Legislative Council stated that tolls need to remain flexible because queues during certain peak periods continue to extend onto connecting roads and non-tunnel lanes. The department noted that the total traffic volume across the three harbour crossings has already exceeded the peak recorded before the implementation of time-varying tolls.
