Europe recorded 10,000 excess deaths in late-June heatwave

European countries recorded over 10,000 excess deaths during a record-breaking heatwave in late June. The majority of these deaths, more than 9,000, occurred among individuals aged 65 and above. This data was published by EuroMOMO, a network supported by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the World Health Organization. Extreme heat poses a significant health risk, capable of causing heatstroke or worsening existing cardiovascular and respiratory conditions, making older populations particularly vulnerable.
