Alibaba says newest Qwen AI model is second only to Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5

Alibaba Group Holding has previewed its next-generation Artificial Intelligence model Qwen3.8, which the company says is “second only” to Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5.Qwen3.8-Max-Preview, the preview version of the strongest model of the Qwen family, had been made available on Alibaba’s Token Plan subscription service, as well as its Qoder and QoderWork agentic platforms, the Chinese tech giant said on an official X post on Sunday.With 2.4 trillion parameters, it was “one of the most powerful models available today, comparable to leading frontier AI models, second only to Fable 5”, Alibaba said on the post, referring to Anthropic’s most capable widely released model to date.
