Hong Kong police arrest 991 in crackdown on illegal gambling during World Cup

Hong Kong police conducted a crackdown on illegal gambling activities surrounding the World Cup in June and July. During this enforcement campaign, officers raided 249 premises suspected of being linked to illegal gambling. The operation resulted in the arrest of 991 individuals, comprising 645 men and 346 women, with ages ranging from 16 to 93. Authorities also uncovered betting records totaling HK$365 million (US$46.5 million). The arrested individuals are suspected of offenses including bookmaking, betting, operating illegal gambling establishments, and money laundering.
