Trump proposes seasoned diplomat as Malaysia envoy instead of ‘alpha male’

The United States has nominated Joshua Harris, a career Middle East diplomat, as its next ambassador to Malaysia. This nomination follows the lapse of President Trump's previous nominee, Nick Adams, in the Senate. Adams, an Australian-born conservative commentator, had drawn protests in Malaysia due to his "alpha male" demeanor, pro-Israel stance, and culture-war commentary. Harris, a Maryland-based member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of minister-counsellor, had his nomination sent to the US Senate on Tuesday. Senators must confirm Harris before he can assume the ambassadorship in Kuala Lumpur.
