University to roll out screenings at pharmacies to uncover osteoporosis cases

The University of Hong Kong's Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine is launching a community pharmacist-led osteoporosis screening program early next year. This initiative aims to identify individuals at high risk of osteoporosis and prevent bone fractures. The program utilizes a screening algorithm enabling pharmacists to detect at-risk patients during regular visits. These identified individuals will then be referred to family doctors for bone density scans and diagnosis. This marks the city's first such community pharmacist-led program.
