Hong Kong international, private school enrolment grows amid drop in student numbers

Hong Kong's international and private schools have seen enrollment increase for the third consecutive year, according to Education Bureau data. This growth coincides with a government talent scheme introduced in 2022, which has attracted a significant influx of mainland Chinese families. These families are reportedly enrolling their children in private and international institutions. Conversely, kindergartens and local public primary schools are experiencing a decline in student numbers. A record 30 preschools are closing or will close this academic year, indicating they are bearing the brunt of the overall decrease in the city's student population.
