Brazil becomes world’s top buyer of Chinese cars as imports jump 147%

Brazil has become the world's leading importer of Chinese cars in the first five months of this year, purchasing $5.2 billion worth of vehicles. This represents a significant increase of 146.9% compared to the same period last year, when Brazil ranked sixth. The surge in imports is largely attributed to automakers rushing to deliver shipments before a tariff increase took effect in July. Electrified models were a major driver of this growth, accounting for $4.5 billion of the total value. The concentration of imports in April and May suggests stockpiling in anticipation of the duty change rather than solely sustained demand.
