US tech publication The Verge reported that an agency official had confirmed on Wednesday that the restrictions applied to smart vacuums.US bans imports of new Chinese robots and power inverters in latest tech crackdownThe FCC did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment on Thursday, outside work hours, regarding the scope of its ban.The policy strikes directly at Chinese manufacturers, which dominate the global home automation sector. Chinese brands Roborock, Ecovacs, Dreame, Xiaomi and Narwal Robotics combined to account for 68 per cent of the global robotic vacuum cleaner market in 2025, according to data from research firm IDC. Global shipments rose 17 per cent, year on year, to 24.1 million units last year.
