Event Overview

Artemis III is NASA's planned mission to land astronauts on the moon, currently scheduled for 2028. It follows Artemis II, a crewed flyby mission and the first manned lunar mission in over 50 years. Artemis II is newsworthy due to recent launch delays caused by technical problems discovered during pre-launch checks. Specifically, an interrupted flow of helium was detected in the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. NASA is considering rolling the Artemis II rocket and Orion spacecraft back to the Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center. While a launch date of March 6th was initially targeted after a successful fueling test, the helium flow issue has almost certainly pushed back the launch window. The delays to Artemis II are significant because they impact the timeline for the overall Artemis program, including the highly anticipated Artemis III moon landing.
