Flooded cave rescue in Laos

Five villagers who were trapped for over a week in a flooded cave in central Laos have been found alive by divers. The group, who became stranded after heavy rains, were discovered sitting on a rock in the darkness. A Thai-led rescue team, including some of the same divers who famously rescued a Thai youth football team in 2018, broke through to the villagers after four days of diving. While the discovery of the five alive is a significant development, two other villagers remain missing. Rescuers are continuing efforts to drain the cave and locate the remaining individuals.
