Morocco faced heavy flooding following weeks of rain after years of drought, leading to the evacuation of over 50,000 people (Feb 2026). Kosovo was devastated by extreme flooding, requiring emergency evacuations from submerged homes (Jan 2026). Indonesia suffered deadly floods in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh, resulting in over 1,170 deaths and widespread displacement (Jan 2026). Even weeks after the initial devastation in Indonesia, communities were still recovering, with residents holding Christmas mass amidst the wreckage (Dec 2025). These floods highlight the increasing vulnerability of communities to extreme weather events and the challenges of disaster recovery.
