Event Overview

Korrika is a biennial popular race across the Basque Country organized to promote the Basque language (Euskera). The 24th edition recently concluded in Bilbao. It involves thousands of participants carrying a baton containing a secret message revealed at the finish line, this year's message being "We are Euskera" and "Let's move forward. Are you coming?". However, this year's event has been marred by controversy due to the presence of individuals linked to ETA, including the son of an ETA leader involved in drafting the message, and the display of images and symbols supporting ETA prisoners along the route. This has drawn criticism from various political groups, except EH Bildu, who condemn the glorification of terrorism and demand respect for victims of ETA. UPN has demanded a public apology from Korrika's organizers. The event is seen by some as a form of ETA whitewashing, causing significant distress to victims of terrorism.
