Tropical Cyclone Mitchell

Tropical Cyclone Mitchell developed from a weak tropical low over the Northern Territory in early February. It tracked eastward across Western Australia's Kimberley region before reaching the Indian Ocean. Fueled by warm waters, Mitchell intensified into a category 3 severe tropical cyclone as it moved southwest, hugging the Western Australian coast. The cyclone was newsworthy due to its potential for significant impact, with forecasts predicting wind gusts up to 195km/h as it approached landfall between Exmouth and Onslow in the Pilbara region. Emergency warnings were issued along the north-west WA coast. Mitchell maintained its category 3 intensity as it moved along the Pilbara coast before making landfall last week, posing a threat to communities and infrastructure in the region.
