Event Overview
Tuberculosis (TB) cases are on the rise in Malaysia, prompting health officials to issue warnings and precautions. The disease, easily diagnosed and treatable, is considered a persistent 'slow-burn epidemic' in the country, with medical experts suggesting potential under-reporting. As of the sixth epidemiological week, 596 new TB cases were reported nationwide, bringing the cumulative total to over 3,000. Ten active TB clusters, comprising 2,571 cases, were detected as of February 7th. The recent increase in cases coincides with Ramadan, where large gatherings at bazaars and breaking fast events create environments conducive to TB transmission. The health ministry is urging the public to be vigilant and observe TB precautions, especially in crowded and enclosed spaces, highlighting the ongoing relevance and significance of TB control measures in Malaysia.
