Ali al-Daher

Ali al-Daher, commonly transliterated ʿAlī al-Ẓāhir or ʿAlī al-Ḍāhir, was one of the sons and a deputy commander of Sheikh Daher al-Umar, the 18th-century tax farmer and strongman of northern Palestine during Ottoman rule. Ali administered Safed and its environs and led several successful military campaigns for his father, but rebelled against him on several occasions, including in collaboration with the mamluk strongman of Egypt, Abu al-Dhahab, in 1774–1775.
