Assamaka

Assamaka is a significant border crossing point located in northern Niger, situated approximately 80 kilometers east of where a tragic incident occurred. Recently, this area has become newsworthy due to the deaths of at least 49 people from thirst. These individuals were part of a group traveling from Mali back to Niger to celebrate the Muslim festival of Eid. Their truck broke down in the isolated Sahara desert, leaving them stranded for days without water. Two survivors managed to walk over 50 kilometers to reach a water source and then a nearby town to alert authorities. The incident highlights the perilous conditions faced by travelers in this remote desert region and underscores the ongoing challenges related to migration and survival in the Sahara.
