Beidaihe

Beidaihe is a seaside resort town located approximately 300km east of Beijing, known for hosting the annual summer retreat of China's political and scientific elite. This gathering, announced by state news agency Xinhua, signals the start of the summer break for top officials. Recent reports indicate that the Communist Party's Central Committee and the State Council have invited dozens of scientific, technological, and academic experts to Beidaihe. This focus on experts highlights China's current emphasis on innovation and overcoming technological "chokepoints" amidst geopolitical competition. The presence of high-ranking officials like Cai Qi, often described as President Xi Jinping’s chief of staff, underscores the significance of these retreats as a platform for discussing national priorities and strategic development.
