Borneo, a large island divided between Malaysia, Indonesia (Kalimantan), and Brunei, is currently newsworthy due to ongoing border disputes and Indonesia's construction of a new capital city. Recent reports indicate a disagreement between Malaysia and Indonesia regarding land concessions in the Sabah-Kalimantan border region. Malaysian officials deny ceding territory, refuting claims made in Indonesian media, stating negotiations are still in progress. Separately, Indonesia is developing Nusantara in East Kalimantan as its new capital, aiming for a green and modern urban center. This project highlights Borneo's increasing significance as a site of development and urbanization. Furthermore, archaeological discoveries in Sulawesi (not Borneo but geographically close and relevant to the region's history), including potentially the world's oldest rock art, underscore the area's rich and ancient cultural heritage.
